Renewing Our Search

Welcome to an extended odyssey along our shared path here at “Becoming Today”.

Together we are undertaking a search and rescue mission for wisdom. Understanding that enlightenment is within our reach we shall seek and find the knowledge and inspiration necessary to uplift, support and enhance our collective journeys as well as our own personal paths along this adventure we call “Becoming Today”.

Last week we began this portion of our journey in our discussion centered upon “Searching For Wisdom“, as we explored Proverbs 1  citing the importance to not only seek, but also share wisdom.

Perhaps we are also doing it  a bit differently, as we are adding some passion to it…

So I’ll take a moment to remind that I am being called to focus this teaching around the The Passion Translation® book of Isaiah and New Testament with Psalms, Proverbs, and Song of Songs translated from Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts.

Done so by  Dr. Brian Simmons who believes the” message of God’s story is timeless; the Word of God doesn’t change. But the methods by which that story is communicated should be timely; the vessels that steward God’s Word can and should change.

Today, moving forward we’ll look at Proverbs 2.  The verse follows and the footnotes can be found at the very end of the post.

Searching for Wisdom

My child, will you treasure my wisdom?

Then, and only then, will you acquire it.

And only if you accept my advice

and hide it within will you succeed.

So train your heart to listen when I speak

and open your spirit wide to expand your discernment—

then pass it on to your sons and daughters.[a]

Yes, cry out for comprehension and intercede for insight.

For if you keep seeking it like a man would seek for sterling silver,

searching in hidden places for cherished treasure,

then you will discover the fear of the Lord

and find the true knowledge of God.

Wisdom is a gift from a generous God,

and every word he speaks is full of revelation

and becomes a fountain of understanding within you.[b]

7–8

For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom

made accessible to his godly ones.[c]

He becomes your personal bodyguard as you follow his ways,

protecting and guarding you as you choose what is right.

Then you will discover all that is just, proper, and fair,

and be empowered to make the right decisions

as you walk into your destiny.

10

When wisdom wins your heart and revelation breaks in,

    true pleasure enters your soul.

11

If you choose to follow good counsel,

divine design will watch over you

    and understanding will protect you

    from making poor choices.

12

It will rescue you from evil in disguise

and from those who speak duplicities.

13

For they have left the paths of righteousness

and walk in the ways of darkness.

14

They take pleasure when evil prospers

and thoroughly enjoy a lifestyle of sin.

15

But they’re walking on a path to nowhere,

    wandering away into deeper deception.

Wisdom, the Way of the Pure

16

Only wisdom can save you from the flattery

    of the promiscuous woman—

    she’s such a smooth-talking seductress!

17

She left her husband and has forgotten her wedding vows.[d]

18

You’ll find her house on the road to hell,

19

and all the men who go through her doors

will never come back to the place they were—

they will find nothing but desolation and despair.

20

Follow those who follow wisdom and stay on the right path.

21

For all my godly lovers will enjoy life to the fullest

    and will inherit their destinies.[e]

22

But the treacherous ones who love darkness

will lose not only all they could have had,

    but even their own souls!

Today’s chapter begins with the encouragement that finding wisdom is possible, however you must first treasure it. If you do not value the gift then it will do you no good.

The first few verses again touch upon the importance of seeking wisdom, then sharing those understandings.

Then we learn, that if we do so,

then you will discover the fear of the Lord

and find the true knowledge of God.

And that,

Wisdom is a gift from a generous God,

and every word he speaks is full of revelation

and becomes a fountain of understanding within you.[b]

Which once we accept continues building and smoothing our paths forward by taking us to a secret place,

7

For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom

made accessible to his godly ones.[c]

Not only is this treasure available to us, it is kept safe and so are we during our journeys as verse 8 continues,

He becomes your personal bodyguard as you follow his ways,

protecting and guarding you as you choose what is right.

Then you will discover all that is just, proper, and fair,

and be empowered to make the right decisions

as you walk into your destiny.

Empowered to be treated fairly and justly as we walk towards our own “Becoming”. That’s wonderful to me and it touches back upon some of the treasured traits we are also discussing during our conversations on the 8 Points of Light

These are all tools that aid in your enlightenment as well as  assisting us in radiating more light, and love, to all those we encounter.

That then allows us further freedom. The ability to continue our undertaking and exploration of ourselves and our purposes in this life as we continue reading with verse,

10

When wisdom wins your heart and revelation breaks in,

    true pleasure enters your soul.

11

If you choose to follow good counsel,

divine design will watch over you

    and understanding will protect you

    from making poor choices.

12

It will rescue you from evil in disguise

and from those who speak duplicities.

Something that is certainly more than relevant in these times

Truth, understanding, enlightenment and wisdom are all very “becoming” traits. They empower us to grow and learn to be who we truly were intended to be. Which in turn enables us to continue moving on, with our momentum fully powered forward and upward.

I hope you have enjoyed this day of our shared odyssey. There is much more to come.

Footnotes

2:2 As translated from the Septuagint.

2:6 The Septuagint adds “found in his presence.”

2:7–8 Or “the righteous.”

2:17 Clearly this is a warning to those who would commit adultery, but there is a deeper meaning within this text. Proverbs tells us of two women: the adulteress and the virtuous woman of Prov. 31. Both women speak a parable of two systems in the church. One is religious and alluring, tempting the young anointed ones to come to her “bed” of compromise (see Mark 7:13). The other is the holy bride, virtuous and pure, keeping her first love (“wedding vows”) for Christ alone. Her “house” is the house of the Lord (see Prov. 2:18). One system brings shame and despair; the other brings favor, honor, and glory. It is wisdom that protects us from one and unites us to the other. See Jer. 50–52 and Rev. 17–18.

2:21 Literally “shall dwell in the land.”
