“Becoming”: Affirming Affirms

This week, we are taking a new step along the path to “Becoming”. Affirming ourselves. This  involves not only declaring and supporting ourselves, but also how we will arrive at creating our own specific affirmations to strengthen us along our daily paths. 

Yesterday we defined that while daily affirmations are simple, positive statements which declare your specific goals as already behind achieved, they are very powerful tools. Tools of focus, strength and clarity. 

To prepare yourself for today’s discussions you must be fully Accepting of who you are and where your momentum is aimed. As you know by now, I believe that momentum always needs to be both forward and upward!

Let go of all negative thoughts and release your  subconscious to heal itself with new beliefs, foundations and visions which are positive and boldly declared as already taking place right here, right now.

“Even before”…… Say it, then you are “Becoming Today”

So let’s establish that affirmations are more than just positive statements. They also  help you overcome self sabotaging attitudes and negative thoughts.By repeating them often, and truly believing the words you are vowing, then you can start to realize positive changes.

Some try to downplay their power, you’ll hear them claim, daily affirmations are ‘unrealistic’ or just ‘wishful thinking’.  However research proves otherwise. 

Academicians have proven, people in high-stress level environments who practice affirmations have lower stress levels and higher instances of success than those who don’t. The study I’ve linked to reveals that positive affirming improved problem-solving performance, suggesting important findings for how self-affirmation boosts achievement..

Just like the benefits of consistent, repetitive physical exercise, the muscles of the mind also benefit greatly from undertaking and committing to healthier actions. 

Therapists have found that using positive repetitions can reprogram thinking patterns and over time, those who affirm do  begin to think and act differently.

Reports also indicate the practice of daily affirmations have been used as clinical treatment for people suffering from low self-esteem and depression.

You can decide to use affirmations to improve any area of your life where you would  like to see positive change. These can include but are not necessarily limited to :

  • Boosting your self confidence. 
  • Overcoming negative emotions. 
  • Improving your self-esteem.
  • Finding a dedicated focus. 

The researchers agree that the power of affirmations comes from repeating them to yourself regularly. Sometimes not only daily, but often several times each and every day.

So far we have learned that Affirmations are positive declarations that focus your intentions on building momentum, geared towards personal growth. They can assist you in defeating sabotaging, defeatist negative self talk.

To use affirmations, identify thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that you truly desire to change. Then take action. Develop positive growth focused, achievable affirming declarations. When you’re ready to put them to use, realize it will require a daily practice. No one and done, it takes work to retrain your mind and align it with your heart’s desire. 

These affirmations should always start with the same two words: “I am…”

As I shared yesterday these two simple words can hold such power over our lives, internally and among the world. These two simple words give us power, direction and create focus. A great study of this practice comes from Joel Osteen’s “Two Words That Will Change Your Life Today”. 

In his best selling book, Pastor Joel points to Proverbs 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

If you affirm negative thoughts you will draw those outcomes to you as well, so choose your words wisely. Correct words to form right thoughts to develop positive actions towards “Becoming”.

Uncertain as to the power of negative words, see Numbers 14:28 – “Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.”

As Joel Osteen wrote, “He said in Numbers 14, I will do for you exactly what you have said. You said you’re going to die in the wilderness, so you will die in the wilderness”. 

And as Scripture teaches, all those who murmured against God ‘s planned positive outcome, the destiny of the Promised Land, did. 

Words have meanings and meanings are power. Make sure you are empowering yourself , speaking always in positive ways. Tomorrow we’ll look at a process for starting to develop our own personal affirmations.
