“Becoming”: Quickly Soon

Monday is here and it’s another week of our shared journey. I hope you had a safe, calm and rewarding weekend. Here it was all about heart warming. Not only metaphorically, but also quite literally.

I’m in the midst of that arctic polar vortex that has been wreaking havoc for millions. In fact tomorrow we will break the all time record for most consecutive days of temperatures below 20 degrees ( Fahrenheit ) and some individual daily records have been shattering all time low temperatures dating back to the period of 1899-1905.

So Saturday I awoke to strange sounds of struggle. Clicking, banging and failure to ignite. Yes, on the coldest day of the winter, of course, the furnace went out. Suddenly without warning in the middle of the night. Quickly we had to leap into unexpected action and develop an alternate course of decisions, other than what we had anticipated for the day.

Soon we realized this was going to take the involvement of highly specialized individuals, so we hastened to make phone calls to find an HVAC company that could respond. Soon we had a call back (at 5:30am) and after a frenetic start, suddenly we knew all would well soon.

And it was. It turned out that the extreme weather had caused an air inlet to freeze, without the proper amount of air, the furnace was not able to breathe (achieve proper air pressure for operation) and ceased to operate. However a rapid diagnosis by a very “Becoming” technician and almost immediately our hearts, as well as fingers, toes, etc, were warming once more.

Plus once more you may have realized I’ve just given you a few clues as to how this situation relates to and what we’ll be discussing in today’ edition of “Becoming Today”.

C’est la Vie, our chilling experience was a living example of this journey we are sharing. Life is less about what happens to you, and more centered upon how you choose to respond to it.

Remaining level headed, thoughtful and approaching the concerning scenario from a place of love, allowed us to encounter others who understood treating others and doing business with an attitude of compassion, dignity and respect for those in need. It was soon after we quickly could trust that our concerns would be mitigated, any doubts we considered were assuaged, and soon the obstacles, threats and diversions were removed from our paths.

A great reminder of how “Becoming” can be measured and assured in our daily living.

Suddenly one moment it can seem like disaster. Then quickly this too shall pass and hasten  our restoration along our paths of “Becoming”.

Last week we enjoyed a very contemplative study of reflecting upon our words. How we use them, which terms to select, exploring the attitudes behind forming our vocabularies, remaining focused with our expressions and living in a state of calm as we accomplish it all.

So how do we build our momentum? Directed as always forward and upward we focus on clarity and an understanding that through right thoughts and disciplined action our needs are met and many times even surpassed.

By remaining calm, at rest, peaceful, in a balanced state and doing so with an open, kind, loving heart result in a gentile spirit. That is receptive to learning, growing, changing and most of all leading the way to who or what we are ”Becoming Today”.

So keeping all of that in mind, let’s begin this week by exploring a couple of words that are critical to our acceptance of our new journeys.

Quickly

Important to our conversation because it can all change and usually does so Quickly. For either the good or the negative, depending upon our choices, decisions and actions, or lack thereof.

To keep a shared understanding, let’s look at the definition of quickly as wells as grow our vocabularies to learn more than a few synonyms for this term of importance.

quick·ly

/ˈkwiklē/

adverb

at a fast speed; rapidly.: eg; “God will quickly smite the enemy”.

Synonyms include fast, swiftly, rapidly, speedily, at high speed, with all speed, at (full) speed, at the speed of light, at full tilt, at a gallop, briskly, on the double, hastily, posthaste, with all possible haste, like a whirlwind, like an arrow from a bow, at breakneck speed, expeditiously, madly, hotfoot, with dispatch, double quick, in double quick time, p.d.q. (pretty darn quick), rapidly, in a flash, or in the twinkling of an eye.

Whew! That was a whole lot of words in a few short periods of time. Almost as if ‘ quickly I was quickened with quick results’!

Which is what happened when I first pondered this principle.

“Quickly”. Poem by Rochelle Jeanette ©2020-2021

Quickly circumstances are conquered by our Faith. Quickly we are rewarded for our Trust. Quickly we are delivered with Grace and Forgiveness.

So how quick is quickly?

Soon.

Within a short time from now.

Example, “If we don’t take action soon, we’re going to miss out”.

Synonyms: shortly, just, imminent, at the earliest/first opportunity, any day/moment, in the short term, in no time (at all), around the corne, ASAP, as early as, at the earliest convenience, before on it’s way, close, coming right up, directly, earlier than thought, forthcoming, impending, in a jiff, in a moment, in the foreseeable future, in the near future, momentarily, near, on the horizon, short-range, someone will be right with you/right there, sooner, the sooner the better or upcoming,

Maybe even… now! It doesn’t get any sooner, more quickly than that.

It really can happen quickly and when you are expecting something, especially change, growth opportunities or a new attitude, outlook or state of mind it really can occur sooner than you’ve ever imagined. You must remain open to the possibilities, accepting of the change and work your A.B.B.s – “Always Be Becoming”.

Still not fast enough for you? How about Now

Living expectantly it can all occur that swiftly; hastened by dedication and commitment, expedited by grace and  with acceptance. Tomorrow we’ll explore the state of Now  on “Becoming Today”.
