Is it really Friday already? Well it is in my part of the planet. It seems like this week is slipping by, however that’s partially due to me contemplating the reasons unknown for some recent unexpected events.
For me September began with a bang. Literally, a huge boom! And all of sudden I could not see where I was headed and could do nothing about it. After a few moments of fear, I quickly came to rest on the opposite side of the road.
It was a sunny day, not much traffic. While I was looking for a road in an unfamiliar area, myself traveling below the posted speed limit, then in less than blink of an eye, everything changed in the moment.
There was a red pick up truck crossing the center lane, at least 30 miles an hour above the limit and all I could do was brace myself for impact and pray.
I believe the latter had a more positive effect.
My car was totaled.
I could not see because the airbags had deployed. While the rescue workers could not open either door on the driver’s side. I was nestled in the seat, all the safety equipment doing what it was supposed to do. I was bleeding, bruised and battered, but could communicate, move and was alive.
An ambulance ride followed by six hours in the hospital emergency room and the tests confirmed nothing broken or sprained. No internal injuries, just lots and lots of cuts, lacerations and glass to be removed from my body.
While medically in shock I was at peace because I know I survived but by the Grace of God.
He had protected me again and was aiding already in my recovery.
So moment to moment my situation changed, first the completely unexpected, but then each resulting minute brought improvement, reassurance and good news.
With the assistance of some very “Becoming” individuals, EMTs, Paramedics, Police, Nurses, Medical Technicians and Doctors and complete strangers who witnessed and assisted I quickly knew life would not only continue, but even for this experience I would become better off.
Plus once more you may have realized I’ve just given you a few clues as to how this situation relates to and what we’ll be discussing now here on “Becoming Today”.
C’est la Vie, my chilling experience was a living example of this journey we are sharing. Life is less about what happens to you, and more centered upon how you choose to respond to it.
Remaining level headed, thoughtful and approaching the concerning scenario from a place of love, allowed us to encounter others who understood treating others and doing business with an attitude of compassion, dignity and respect for those in need. It was soon after we quickly could trust that our concerns would be mitigated, any doubts we considered were assuaged, and soon the obstacles, threats and diversions were removed from our paths.
A great reminder of how “Becoming” can be measured and assured in our daily living.
Previously we’ve enjoyed a very contemplative study of reflecting upon our words.
How we use them, which terms to select, exploring the attitudes behind forming our vocabularies, remaining focused with our expressions and living in a state of calm as we accomplish it all.
So how do we build our momentum? Directed as always forward and upward we focus on clarity and an understanding that through right thoughts and disciplined action our needs are met and many times even surpassed.
By remaining calm, at rest, peaceful, in a balanced state and doing so with an open, kind, loving heart result in a gentile spirit. That is receptive to learning, growing, changing and most of all leading the way to who or what we are ”Becoming Today”.
So keeping all of that in mind, let’s explore a couple of words that are critical to our acceptance of our shared journeys.
Important to our conversation because it can all change and usually does so Quickly. For either the good or the negative, depending upon our choices, decisions and actions, or lack thereof.
To keep a shared understanding, let’s look at the definition of quickly as wells as grow our vocabularies to learn more than a few synonyms for this term of importance.
at a fast speed; rapidly.: eg; “God will quickly smite the enemy”.
Synonyms include fast, swiftly, rapidly, speedily, at high speed, with all speed, at (full) speed, at the speed of light, at full tilt, at a gallop, briskly, on the double, hastily, posthaste, with all possible haste, like a whirlwind, like an arrow from a bow, at breakneck speed, expeditiously, madly, hotfoot, with dispatch, double quick, in double quick time, p.d.q. (pretty darn quick), rapidly, in a flash, or in the twinkling of an eye.
Whew! That was a whole lot of words in a few short periods of time. Almost as if ‘ quickly I was quickened with quick results’!
Which is what happened when I first pondered this principle.
Quickly circumstances are conquered by our Faith. Quickly we are rewarded for our Trust. Quickly we are delivered with Grace and Forgiveness.
So how quick is quickly?
Within a short time from now.
Example, “If we don’t take action soon, we’re going to miss out”.
Synonyms: shortly, just, imminent, at the earliest/first opportunity, any day/moment, in the short term, in no time (at all), around the corne, ASAP, as early as, at the earliest convenience, before on it’s way, close, coming right up, directly, earlier than thought, forthcoming, impending, in a jiff, in a moment, in the foreseeable future, in the near future, momentarily, near, on the horizon, short-range, someone will be right with you/right there, sooner, the sooner the better or upcoming,
Maybe even… now! It doesn’t get any sooner, more quickly than that.
It, especially change, really can happen quickly whether you are expecting it or not.
Growth opportunities or a new attitude, outlook or state of mind “it” really can occur sooner than you’ve ever imagined.
You must remain open to the possibilities, accepting of the change and work your A.B.B.s – “Always Be Becoming”.
Still not fast enough for you? How about Now?
Living expectantly it can all occur that swiftly; hastened by dedication and commitment, expedited by grace and with acceptance.
