Declaring Intentions

Time to put your words into action. The fact is that words matter. They do have meaning and as Grandma always said we should choose our words wisely. 

So on this edition of “Becoming Today”  we’ll discuss using our words to build, uplift and inspire rather than destroy, segregate and break down all we truly hold dear and priceless in our hearts.

Now is when you can make your words matter.

Making bold declarations to both ourselves and others plus calling for action is important for each of us and the collective”we” on this shared journey. 

As we’ve already established,  words have meaning; and those meanings combined with the tone and the intent behind them, become power. 

Let’s refocus ourselves on defining this topic letting our intentions be known and to do so by boldly declaring. 

Boldly is derivative of the word bold, which for our purposes is defined as, “showing an ability to take risks; confident and courageous”. Boldly therefore is” in a confident and courageous way”.

For our conversation, declare will be referenced as to “say something in a solemn and emphatic manner”.

Putting them all together then to boldly declare is to courageously and confidently say something in a serious, firm and assertive manner.

Some example sentences include:

“Christians are required to boldly declare the truth of the Word of God.”

“She boldly declared her intentions to move ahead on her  path of “Becoming”.

A historic example of making  bold declaration: 

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

Plus my example of a definitive declaration for our individual independence: 

“We are all in a constant state of ‘Becoming’, 24/7/365!”.

With shared definitions and understanding we can move forward with why it is so important to be boldly declaring. 

So why should you be boldly declaring? It’s more like why shouldn’t you. Now that you have identified who you are, plus when you want to be, it’s time to put things into action. What better way than by courageously communicating your intentions.

Standing up to any fears or doubts, ready to overcome any objections or obstacles asserting your truth aligns your intentions with your thoughts and vocalizing them can catapult your forward in making your goal a reality.

For me, the call to be bold is based in the Bible. God has called upon us to boldly proclaim. Living our beliefs requires us to be brave, dring at times, honorable, truthful and valiant.  

In 2 Timothy 1:7 we learn that God did not give us a spirit of fear; rather He created us with a spirit of power. Now that’s something He does not want us to remain quiet about, and furthermore He intends for  us to back up our words with words, turning the talk into right actions. 

 Also, while often overlooked, the Book of Titus is the shortest in the Bible. However that is what makes it so important. It’s brevity allows for clear concise expectations and instructions for living a life that is in accord with the Lord.

In the letter, Paul sends to Titus, after sharing a list of instruction for how Christians should be “Becoming” at different times in our  life (Titus 2:2-6) he make no qualms about the need for boldly declaring and urges to speak loudly and carry a big declaration,  

“These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.” 

Titus 2:15 KJV

Plus for good measure you can also consult, Ephesians 6:19-20 “And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

And here’s a quote from one of our fearless “Sisters in Christ” who is no stranger to boldly declaring...

As you begin to formulate your bold declarations, then hold your tongue for a moment. Remember words have meaning directly impacting actions and outcomes. 

Choosing your words carefully can lead you to great success, while not guarding your Whether you are involved in friendly conversation, business discussions, arguments, debates, or talking to yourself, the words you opt to use can either give or take away power from you, your situation and your desired outcomes. 

Quite literally choosing the proper expression can change your life or keep you in the wilderness for another 40 years. Words elicit not only an intellectual component, by whether or not you and those you are communicating with share the same definition, they also often first evoke an emotional response. Whether that’s positive or negative is up to you.

While the late US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia affirmed:

  • “Words have meaning. And their meaning doesn’t change.”

They certainty can change and do,  if there is not a common definition. Even then the word can be further enhanced or exacerbated by tone, volume or even in writing as to how they are expressed. Let’s consider this word:

The same four letters. Pronounced in the same way and even in print you feel the difference. Therefore you can draw different meanings, memories and elicit varied responses to motivate, manage or manipulate others.

This is even true when it comes to self-talk.

As we’ve discussed before, that inner dialogue, the never ending conversion you have with yourself ( either inside your head or at times aloud) has a tremendous impact on your self-esteem, value as well as your  accomplishments and / or failures.

Instead of saying “I feel like _ _ _ _” . 

Choose to say “My health is improving”.

 Do not bring negativity into your thoughts, or you will find it in your outcomes. And that’s something not very “Becoming”.

Words are an extremely powerful force available for our use.  Motivation also plays an important role as we can opt to select words of encouragement, growth and hope or despair, anger and hate.

On our shared path of “Becoming”, I pray you are selecting the positive. The terms that help, heighten, heal, plus are hopeful, heartening and humble.
